How do we guide our wants to line up with God’s desires for us in regard to the human authorities around us? Heidelberg Catechism extends the command to honor father and mother to honoring all human authority. We do this first and foremost out of the fear of the Lord who has instituted such authority. However, the primacy of our submission to God also limits the scope of what any human authority may rightly demand of us.
