Help for the Harvest Sunday, May 7, 2023

Grain rotting in a field and fruit rotting on the vine are very sad sights because they mean people are going hungry and it means a loss of livelihood for those who planted the field, vineyard, or orchard. Jesus uses this powerful picture when speaking about the people who need to hear the good news of the Kingdom of Heaven. He says to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” The next thing Jesus does is send his disciples to meet people with this good news. The fields are still ripe today.
