The Good Shepherd Transforms His Sheep Sunday, May 19, 2024
The LORD as the Good Shepherd appears next in the book of the Prophet Zechariah which is set 70 years or so after Ezekiel and Jeremiah, in the time when some of the Jews returned from exile to Jerusalem and rebuilt the temple. Zechariah adds two key pieces to the Good Shepherd material: first, that the Good Shepherd will transform the humble sheep into a warhorse that brings glory to the LORD, and second, that the LORD will not only gather from those taken to Babylon, but from his people scattered all over the earth. This looks ahead to Revelation’s picture of God’s church including people of every tongue, tribe, and nation.
