Looking Back to Move Forward Sunday, August 22, 2021
A few weeks back we looked together at the Israelites crossing the Jordan river to enter the land that the LORD had promised them. The next event we would expect is a move to take or settle that land. Instead, God’s people pause to celebrate two covenant ceremonies – two sacraments in church terms. Before moving further into the promised land and facing the trials that were ahead, the LORD caused Israel to look back at what he had already done for them. They were a nation because God had chosen them and God had redeemed them. This morning we will celebrate the church version of one of those sacraments as we celebrate the Lord’s Supper together, remembering Jesus redeeming us through the cross. We’ll celebrate the sacrament of God’s choosing next Sunday as we baptize Wylie Janet Irmiter.
