“When Cephas (Peter) came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned.” Such words shake our understanding of the early church as an alliance of peace and tranquility. The early Christians had some thorny issues to figure out, and the shared understanding regarding whether or not the early church was essentially a Jewish community required some difficult events and decisions. Throughout history the church has had to argue about difficult decisions, and today is no different.
